Start of the project and main task

The project was given to us at the stage when it had a ready-made website and admin panel for automation, but the client decided that the admin panel needed to be rewritten and all the necessary automation added.

The main idea of the project is that products were purchased in Europe and delivered to South Korea. The goods were parsed from the websites where these goods are sold in Europe. Automation consists in the fact that information on product prices is automatically parsed, passed through the mechanism of calculating the price of products and synchronized directly to the store.

The site itself is powered by the Shopify platform, and the synchronization of product information is carried out using their API.

Functionality of the admin panel and description of automation

Separate modules for each store provide data parsing. According to the parsing process, an XML file with data on goods is created. This file is then uploaded to the system, parsed, and prices are calculated for each product.

To speed up the parsing process, a proxy server is used, which does not allow donor sites to block parsers. Automation of the calculation of prices for products was moved to separate modules based on RabbitMQ.

This approach allowed us to distribute the server load over time.

Setting up donor websites

Donor sites can be configured for parsing: add categories to be parsed, type of product price (NET or GROSS) which affects the formula for calculating the price of the product. In this module the administrator can upload a file that will mark the products required for synchronization and upload the necessary information for import to Korea.

Products

The product list shows all products that have been sourced from websites. Some products may not be available on the client's website. Products may be inactive, active, or deleted if they disappeared from the original websites. Later, when deleted products are restored on original sites, they automatically appear on our store.

Currency settings

Several services are used to calculate the final cost of the product: purchase, transportation, and customs clearance. Different currencies are involved in this process. That's why to get the price of goods in Korean won, exchange rates are needed.

Translations

All product names and descriptions are automatically translated from German into Korean and English. For this purpose, a translation API was integrated into the project. Professional translators were also involved in the process of preparing the products. A separate module was created for them to upload corrections based on automatic translations.

Conclusion

The active phase of the project lasted for 6 months. During this time, an admin panel for automation was created from scratch. Then the project only increased its potential. As a result, two separate subprojects were additionally integrated.
